Welcome to the studio

I’m Gina Vide (pronounced Vee-dah — the Swedish word for willow), a fine artist and illustrator living between city and sea in Sweden with my international family and two dogs.

I work across mediums — watercolour, ink, oil paint — but my most distinctive work is made entirely from nature. No glue, no tape. Just foraged petals, leaves and seeds, arranged into narrative scenes and returned to the earth after photographing. Every piece begins with a walk.

My botanical art began with my children and their pockets full of petals and leaves. Back at home, they would arrange their nature treasures and I began to create elaborate scenes at the center of our dinner table. The wonder reflected in their faces inspired me to keep going … and has never stopped.

My work has been commissioned by the Swedish Royal Family for the children’s book Saga om Confidencen, and most recently shared by photographer and author Jamie Beck. I founded the award-winning creative platform Willowday, and my work has been published in books, exhibited internationally: including at Trädgårdsmässan, Scandinavia’s largest garden fair ; collaborated with clients including Disney, Sony, Universal Music, TREK Bicycles and Karolinska Institute.

From my earliest memories — dancing under the cosmos in my family’s garden, drawing at the kitchen table, making animals from whatever was on my dinner plate — I have been captivated by the wonder hiding in ordinary things. That sense of wonder is at the heart of everything I make.

I am now creating fully under my own name; as the artist I have always been.

Welcome to my studio.

Warmly,

Gina Vide
